Effect of Ribbon Width on the Magnetic Properties of Fe- based Amorphous Cores

The effects of different ribbon widths on the magnetic properties of an amorphous alloy were studied. DSC, TGA, XRD, VSM, SEM and ER techniques were used. For SA1 alloy, the sample during primary crystallization for the 142mm and 213mm width ribbons are quite similar; however the magnetic properties and morphologies are significantly different. Finally, the measurements of a three-phase 2MVA amorphous-cored transformer illustrate that the transformer with ribbon width 142mm has better magnetic properties in the aspect of lower core loss, exciting power and noise level.
